Despite the formidable capabilities of cyber security tools, including their abilities to behave in hyper-fast, extremely dynamic, and exceedingly scalable ways, many organizations remain stuck in the past when it comes to applying technologies.
In the next few years, it’s predicted that best-of-breed solutions will slowly die out, to be replaced by cyber security platforms that feature the following five tightly interwoven components: endpoint/cloud security, network security, sandboxing, threat intelligence and actionable metrics. These interconnected tools will form a web of safeguards that can rapidly and dynamically stop incidents. “The benefits of tight integration, vendor partnerships, and streamlined operations will outweigh any incremental differences between individual point tools,”
Cloud-based management planes are also expected to emerge on the horizon. A contemporary example of this management plane trend is elastic cloud gateways. Under this configuration, security controls are distributed, but also capable of carrying out complex and unique enforcement rules. The advantage here is that it permits remote employees to access the security technology, while the process for managing hardware and software-based security controls becomes simpler and accelerated.
In another emerging trend, immensely scalable security operations and analytics platform architectures (SOAPA), are evolving, growing, and likely to soon form the roots of your enterprise. Data collection and analysis components will be more powerful than before, threat vulnerability data correlation will yield increased insights, and sifting through risk management data won’t be as grueling as previously.
The aforementioned elements represent mere hints of what the future holds in store.
